The construction industry is often accompanied by a range of challenges, including mob activity and conflicts that can disrupt the progress of projects and compromise the safety of workers. Recognizing the need for a positive change, Balwin Properties took a proactive approach through its social impact subsidiary, The Balwin Foundation, by collaborating with multiple stakeholders to address these issues. It has been through their collective efforts that a programme not only ensures compliance with safety and health regulations but also promotes a culture of professionalism and excellence among contractors and subcontractors.
The iLembe Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Balwin Foundation, for the third year running, invites local companies to nominate contractors to participate in the programme. The financial support of this programme is provided by the Balwin Foundation and other partners, including Siza Water, Engie Peakers Projects, Saryx Engineers and enable delegates, who participate in the programme to be sponsored by the reputable programme, which is facilitated by the Master Builders Association (MBA) KZN.
Throughout the programme, contractors will learn the following criteria through different courses: Applying health and safety to a work area; applying quality principles on a construction site; understanding and applying basic business finances; managing construction resources; setting up and managing a construction contracting business; reading, interpreting and using construction drawings, and specifications, as well as tendering for construction contracts.
