Artist: Lydia Da Silva
Lydia Da Silva was born in 1959 and is a South African post-war and contemporary artist. She is the owner of the Palette Art Galleries found in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, and Franschhoek. Her work consists of bronze sculptures that draw inspiration from the human form. Her work, Swan Diver, captures the elegance of the Acapulco Cliff divers. Perched high above, they hurl their bodies in a gracious curve with arms outstretched, reminiscent of a swan’s wings. Seconds before hitting the water at breakneck speed, they bring their arms together and clench their fists to brace for impact. The coastline is dotted with rocks, so this is a true feat of courage.
Swan Diver is the epitome of fascination with the Acapulco Cliff divers.
